Dastan’s Basement is proud to announce the opening of "Reverse Mirage," a series of works by Alireza Rasoulzadeh, curated by Ramtin Hamidi. “Reverse Mirage" will start on Friday, September 3, 2021 and will continue until September 10. In this exhibition the artist displays a collection of sculptures made of papier-mâché, copper, stone and bronze in varying dimensions. "Reverse mirage" refers to a phenomenon in the sea in which objects on the horizon appear out of proportion and simplified. In this body of works, Rasoulzadeh occupies himself with how the region's architecture has made great use of mirage. In this dry soil, mirage can bring vitality to those living off of it. This series combines Iranian architecture, real mirage, and its reconstruction with simpler and more ordered forms in smaller dimensions. By choosing papier-mâché as the main material, which according to the artist is reminiscent of “cob” (mud and straw bricks), and with the natural color of copper and bronze, the artist has made minarets and architectural structures in different sizes. Born in 1984, Alireza Rasoulzadeh has an MA in Artistic Research. He held his first solo exhibition, "Durability" (2018), at Dastan’s Basement. He has also participated in many group exhibitions in Iran and worldwide since 2014.
