“… Nothing but forms becoming and crumbling into the fragments of a new becoming, without love or hate or any intelligible principle of change. Here there was nothing but commotion and the pure forms of commotion.”
– Samuel Beckett, “Murphy”
O Gallery presents “Fragments II”, Farzad Majidi’s (b.1986) second solo show. The paintings in this exhibition, created in continuation to the artist’s previous collection, seek to represent space and place by using visual and written fragments from various sources and associations from memory and recollections.
In each work, a network of interactions between found images on the internet and digital media, art history references, mental images and mementos, fragments from various texts and purely painterly elements, make possible the creation of a type of space or scene that has formed in the process of trial and error, without a predetermined plan or path.
In addition to the relationship based on fragmented pieces and the lack of a logical order between the forms and components of each work, each painting can be considered an incomplete piece of a large and incoherent whole within the collection.
More than trying to achieve a tangible and comprehensible representation of reality, the artist seeks to use the mentioned visual features and relationships to explore the potentials of painting as a medium to create an accidental, dreamlike, plural and multifaceted reality on a two-dimensional surface.
