When the persistent and scrupulous publisher of this collection asked me to write about my own work, 1, believing that the artist's explanation of his work adds nothing to it, wondered what I can say without jeopardizing the very essence of painting. If the artist's creations do not speak for themselves, his personal explanation will never be able to illustrate the difficult inner experiences which press from within to get home on the canvas by being reflected on it. Everyone may approach and interpret the works included in this collection in a personal way. However, here the commitment that comes not from without, but from within, is the starting point for the artist's I, and the viewer's you. The spontaneity and self-createdness of the figures are such that any personal interpretation of them could only be considered an imposition. of a one-sided viewpoint. This is alien to the very essence of life, not to say anything about the nature of art. I have committed myself to the pledge not to remain indifferent and neutral; not to make a mere wall decoration of painting; not to waste my potentials in a display of virtuosity. This has been my constant concern: What does art, as the highest form of human activity in a world where mankind in a heroic endeavor is striving to create humane relations have to offer to me as an artist, and to you as a viewer, if the trickery of playing with form, tool, and structure.
