This work by Shafic Abboud is well documented in the Artist's archives - with photographs and comments in notebooks about Abboud's interest in this painting. According to him, it was the first of the "Esquisses pour les Nuits" ("Sketches for the Nights") to introduce graphic signs and scriptures, which he would later use for the series of large canvases that would constitute the "Nuits".
