Mostafa Goudarzi was born in Boroujerd. He received a bachelor's degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tehran University. Then he went to France to continue his studies and received a master's degree in visual arts at the University of Rennes. He also completed his doctoral course in visual arts at the same university. In addition, he also received a doctorate in art history from Paris 1 Sorbonne University.
After returning to Iran, he accepted many managerial responsibilities and started working in academic and government institutions. Between 1996 and 2004, he was the director of the visual arts center of the Hozeh Honari institution. He was also a member of the founding board and board of trustees of the "Visual Arts Association" of Iran. He has also collaborated with the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art as a scientific-artistic consultant. Goudarzi, who worked as the vice-chancellor of Soureh University for two years since 1996, also founded the culture-art magazine "Soureh." Among other activities of Guderzi's career, we can mention the editorship of the monthly and quarterly magazine "Visual Arts" between 1996 and 2003, the post-graduate representative of the Department of Visual Arts in the Faculty of Fine Arts, and a member of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Tehran. So far, Gouderzi has exhibited his works in 10 individual exhibitions and more than 90 group exhibitions. This artist has also participated in international events and competitions and has won honors, including receiving a diploma of honor praise from the International Graphic Exhibition in Moscow (1987), receiving a special award from the first annual graphic exhibition in Tehran, receiving a gold plaque, Honorary diploma and commemorative medal from the art and literature complex in Tehran (1988) and received an award, memorial plaque and honorary diploma from the second painting biennale in Tehran (1993).
During the years of the Iran-Iraq war, Gouderzi was mainly engaged in poster design and political cartoons. However, from the end of the 1980s, he took painting more seriously and gradually achieved a more personal and free way from mannerist representations. This development, as he said, was the result of his efforts toward Iranian identity: "I thought that to let go of what was imposed on us from Western painting and find Iranian identity in the realm of painting, we should first refer to the formal characteristics of our own painting. and while searching for the lost view and perspective, use the many years of experience of great masters in matters of aesthetics, simplification of forms, color, and composition." The seriousness of space creation, the utilization of simple linear shapes and soft colors, and the delicate execution of the background texture (combed) are among the characteristic features of Gouderzi's recent paintings.
