Morteza Zahedi, born in Rasht, Iran in 1978, graduated from the Art and Architecture College in Tehran in 2001 with a BA in Painting. Early in his career, he garnered significant acclaim, winning the Second Prize at the 5th Tehran Biennial of Illustration in 2002. In 2003, he received an Honor Diploma from the Bologna Book Fair in Italy and won the Golden Pen and Second Prize at the 42nd Belgrade Exhibition of Illustration. His success continued with multiple awards from the Bologna Book Fair and other international recognitions, such as the Encouragement Prize at the Noma Illustration Concours in Japan in 2006.
Zahedi's notable achievements include receiving multiple Honor Diplomas from the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) for his work "Goodnight Commander" in 2008, as well as being selected and awarded an Honor Diploma from the Bologna Book Fair in 2009. In 2012, he was nominated as one of the Top 10 illustrators at the Cow International Festival for his book "With the Sun in My Eyes."
Throughout his career, Zahedi has exhibited his work extensively around the world. His exhibitions include solo shows such as "Tickle" at XVA Gallery in Dubai and numerous group exhibitions in Tehran, Madrid, and other international locations. Notable exhibitions also took place in Shanghai, Hyogo, Tokyo, and across Japan and Europe, highlighting his global influence.
Morteza Zahedi is the co-founder of the Outsider Inn Gallery in Tehran, dedicated to promoting and showcasing outsider artists. His efforts have provided a crucial platform for marginalized voices in the art world.
Currently residing and working in Tehran, Zahedi remains a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene, both locally and internationally.
