About Mohammed Sami

Mohammed Sami is an Iraqi artist born in Baghdad who currently lives and works in London. After studying at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad, he continued his education at the Belfast School of Art and Goldsmiths, University of London.

Sami's work explores themes of memory, war, migration, and exile. Through uninhabited interiors and landscapes, he employs light, shadow, colour, and texture to evoke feelings of absence, anxiety, and fragmented memory.

In 2025, Sami was nominated for the Turner Prize. His works are held in the collections of major institutions, including Tate, London; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
