Mahmoud Farshchian, Iranian painter and illustrator, was born on January 24, 1930 in Isfahan, Iran. He currently works and lives in New Jersey, USA. Farshchian was introduced to the workshop of Mirza Agha Emami through his father, who was a carpet merchant, and learned the basics of painting in his studio. After that, he studied under the supervision of Issa Bahadori, one of the revivalists of traditional Iranian arts in the contemporary era. After that he entered the Fine Arts Academy in Isfahan from 1941 to 1943.

After completing these trainings, Farshchian went to Europe for art studies from 1953 to 1955 and studied the works of prominent Western artists in museums. After returning to Iran, he worked in the General Department of Fine Arts and taught in different art schools in Tehran and the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tehran.

Mahmoud Farshchian held his first solo exhibition at the Iran and England Cultural Association, Isfahan in 1948, and since then has participated in more than 57 solo exhibitions and 86 group exhibitions in Iran, Europe, America and Asia. This Iranian painter has also been exhibited in museums and important art collections around the world. During his artistic life, Farshchian has received more than ten awards from different art institutions, the most prominent of which is the first degree diploma in the field of Iranian painting and Islamic arts from the Supreme Council of Culture and Arts.

Mahmoud Farshchian recreated traditional Iranian painting in a personal way and his works are world famous.
