Behdad Lahoخti, a contemporary sculptor, was born in Tehran. Lahoti exhibited his works for the first time in 2002 at Sarv Gallery in Tehran. In 2006, he participated in the Biennial of Tehran Sculpture. In the same year, in the form of a group exhibition, he exhibited his works at the Biennial of Izmir, Turkey. In 2009, his works were shown in a group exhibition titled "Iran front and back" at the Chelsea Museum of Art, New York. Since then, he has held many solo and group exhibitions in cooperation with galleries in the country. He is an active member of the Iranian Sculptor Artists Association and has participated in many events as a manager, judge, etc. He was elected to the board of directors of the Sculptors Association of Iran in the seventh term. He cooperated with the 8th Tehran Symposium (2016) as a member of the policy-making council. He was a member of the board of directors at the 6th biennale of sculpture in Tehran in 2012.
The volumes made by Lahooti in different periods of his art are highly diverse in terms of materials and style components, and it is challenging to include his works under a single style. In one of his working periods, he meshed the surface of ready-made objects, such as plastic balls, filters, gallons, cartridges, sunshades, etc., with a nail-like texture. The contrast between the combination and coexistence of ancient and today's consumer and modern elements contains an ironic meaning to our idea of historical progress. On the other hand, the selection of factors related to the current events and the apparent indications of oil, violence, and subjugation that is going on in the Middle East gives a political and social aspect to his works. In another piece titled "In the Name of Freedom," inspired by Marcel Duchamp's fountain, he covered the surface of an Iranian toilet bowl with a linguistic motif (just the verb of freedom). Or in his other works, he recreated plant textures and greenhouses with strong and bright colors using fiberglass; his works have elements of pop art aesthetics.
