Outsider Art Enters a New phase in the Art Market
This article examines the evolving position of Outsider Art within the contemporary art market. While dedicated auctions in the field have become less common, the work of Outsider artists is gaining greater visibility across museums, galleries, international art fairs, and major auction houses. Rather than signaling a decline, this shift reflects the field’s gradual integration into the mainstream art market. Through an analysis of Christie’s and Slotin Auction, as well as the performance of individual artists, the article explores the market’s current dynamics and patterns of demand in 2026. It also considers the growing role of museums and cultural institutions in advancing the recognition and visibility of Outsider artists. This text is a translation of Céline Moine’s 2026 article, “Outsider Art is Entering a New Market Phase."
