In the collection on display, Ali Seydani (b. 1963, Neyshabur) represents the current landscapes of “The Ancient City of Neyshabur” with a contemporary approach.
The artist has implemented the soil-like color of wood panels to create paintings that reflect the climatic conditions of Neyshabur; a city that although is located in the middle of a dry desert, has a temperate climate and diverse vegetation, despite the pervasive environmental crises throughout Iran, by virtue of the surrounding Binalood Mountains. The recurring turquoise color used in most of the paintings is on one hand reminiscent of the color pallet of Iranian miniature paintings, and on the other, reminds us of the clearness of the air and the prosperity of the historical turquoise mines. In this collection, the combination of stunning urban landscapes, industrial areas, ancient ruins and vegetation on a background of mountains and turquoise sky, is a noble indication of the contemporary situation and current urban life, while being faithful to the heritage of the ancient city of Neyshabur.
