Mirza Gholamreza Esfahani was a renowned calligrapher of the Qajar era, born in 1830 and passed away in 1886. He was a master of both "Nasta'liq" and "Shikasteh" scripts, achieving excellence in both styles. At the age of fifteen, he entered the court of Mohammad Shah Qajar, where he was appointed as a tutor to the royal children. Later, he also gained the patronage of Naser al-Din Shah.
Mirza Gholamreza was highly skilled in writing "Nasta'liq" script across various scales, from delicate book manuscripts to monumental inscriptions. One of his most significant works includes the inscriptions of "Sepahsalar School" in Baharestan Square, Tehran. He often signed his works with the phrase "Ya Ali Madad Ast" (Oh Imam Ali, grant help).
