Gholamreza Mahrooyi was born in 1961 in Arak. He received his honors degree in 1991 from Iran calligraphers association.
Mahrooyi has written the Jamkaran Mosque inscription. This inscription with a length of more than a thousand meters is written in three Nastaliq, Thuluth and Kufi scripts. He started writing the Quran on handmade paper in 1991, which lasted for seven years. He has also held many exhibitions inside and outside of Iran such as Armenia and Kuwait.
Gholamreza Mahrooy's works contain verses from the Quran, divine names and poems by famous Iranian poets such as Hafez and Saeb Tabrizi. The technique of his works is oil paint, acrylic and gold and copper leaf on canvas. He often uses the three lines of Naskh, Thuluth and Nastaliq. A kind of aging can be seen in his works, which is created by layering and creating intentional cracks on the work. The use of brown and rust colors has also contributed to this aging.
