Faramarz Pilaram was a contemporary of Charles Hossein Zenderoudi and Parviz Tanavoli, and is considered as one of the most important of the Saqqa-khaneh artists. As with the works his those artists, his neo-traditionalist paintings of the early 1960s included Iranian religious and folk iconography. As with Zenderoudi, by the late 1960s his focus changed and his mature works were concerned primarily with the Persian letterform.
