  •  Born in Rasht in 1931 the renowned painter and sculptor Bahman Mohasses left Iran after his education and traveled to Rome in 1951 where he undertook further study at the Academy of Art.

The artist's works often boarder on the surreal and are fraught with nervous energy, suppressed movement and pessimism. Typical subjects include birds, human figures and various still life studies. The birds in this composition are powerful creatures, their rounded, slightly stylised bodies sit in stark contrast to the realistic spindly branches of their perch.

Mohasses's works form part of important private and public collections throughout Europe, the U.S.A. and the Middle East. Up until his death in July this year the artist lived and worked in Rome, returning to Iran infrequently.

The artist's early sculptural works are rare and this piece is the only sculpture to appear at auction to date.
